The SPC Cares Foundation continues to expand its impact across northeastern South Carolina, awarding more than $18,000 in grants to local nonprofits during the first half of 2026 while also providing financial assistance to members and scholarships for
    students.

Established by SPC Credit Union in 2024, the Foundation supports initiatives focused on hunger, housing, employment and education throughout Darlington, Marlboro, Chesterfield and Florence counties. In the first six months of 2026, the Foundation awarded
$18,200 in Community Impact Grants, nearly $5,000 through its Member Hardship Program and $15,000 in Down Payment Assistance Forgivable Loans.

In May, the Foundation approved 12 Community Impact Grants of $1,000 each. Recipients included the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area, Community Action Volunteer Experience (CAVE), Child & Family Resource Center, Christ City of Refuge, Educational
Foundation of Lower Florence County, Hartsville Little Theatre, Kingdom Community Services, My Brother's Keeper, Pee Dee Coalition, Rooted in Hartsville, Rubicon Family Counseling and the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.

The grants support projects ranging from community gardens and meal programs to housing assistance, behavioral health services and educational opportunities for children and families.

"The SPC Cares Foundation's support helps get kids excited about learning," said Jacob Coward, executive director of the Educational Foundation of Lower Florence County, whose organization used grant funding to support its Super Space Camp 2026. "Some
of these kids come from low-income, single-parent, disadvantaged homes. They don't even know that being an astronaut is an option."

The Foundation also supported arts education by providing scholarships through Hartsville Little Theatre, giving children access to performing arts programs that build confidence, communication and teamwork.

Beyond its annual grant program, the Foundation presented a $2,600 donation to the Darlington County Coordinating Council during SPC Credit Union's Darlington branch grand opening and honored outgoing Board Chair Travis Walters with a $3,600 gift to the
Darlington County Humane Society during the credit union's 85th annual meeting.

The Foundation also awarded eight $1,000 scholarships to SPC members pursuing higher education. Recipients included Hannah Humphries, Hannah James, Matthew Adams, DeMonte Pendergrass, Sara Preston Hall, Zoe Sanders, Isaac Smith and JaKarr Spivey.

"Being named a recipient for this prestigious scholarship has truly been such an honor," said Hall, a rising sophomore at Clemson University. "I am grateful to be a small part of the SPC Cares Foundation's generous impact."

Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations within SPC Credit Union's field of membership are eligible to apply annually for Community Impact Grants. The Foundation also offers Member Hardship assistance and scholarships for eligible SPC members pursuing
    higher education.

Greenville Federal Credit Union expands campus following milestone year of growth

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Greenville Federal Credit Union has announced plans to expand its Wade Hampton Boulevard campus with the construction of a new three-story administrative building to support the organization's continued growth.

Rendering of the new Greenville FCU administrative building.

The 12,000-square-foot facility will be built on the lot adjacent to the credit union's Wade Hampton branch and will include offices, conference rooms, and collaborative meeting spaces for more than 30 employees representing multiple departments.

The $9.5 million project is the second major building initiative announced by the credit union this year. Construction is also underway on a new Berea branch, which is expected to open in early 2027. Creative Builders Inc. is serving as the contractor
for both projects, while SHLTR is the project architect.

The expansion follows several milestones reached by the credit union in 2025, including surpassing 35,500 members and more than $500 million in assets. According to the credit union, the continued growth has driven the need for additional workspace to
support its expanding team, enhance collaboration and strengthen its ability to serve members.

“Everything we do is only possible because of our members and our dedicated staff,” said President and CEO Paul Hughes. “Without them, none of this would even be feasible. The credit union’s strong and steady growth over nearly 60 years has fueled this
need for an expanded space. With over 105 employees all based in Greenville, we needed to find space that would prioritize the efficiency and collaboration of our growing workforce.”

Groundbreaking is expected to begin later this summer, with the new administrative building scheduled for completion in mid-2027.

Founded in 1968 by nine employees of the School District of Greenville County, Greenville Federal Credit Union has grown from an educators' credit union into a community-chartered financial cooperative committed to serving individuals and families throughout
    Greenville County.

SRP Federal Credit Union leaders presented the Edgefield County Board of Education with a ceremonial check for nearly $40,000 at the board meeting on Tuesday, June 9, reflecting a year of support for Strom Thurmond High School in the SRP Affinity Debit
    Card Program.

Totaling $39,403.80, the donation represents the program’s 2025 proceeds for STHS—bringing the school’s lifetime proceeds to nearly $200,000.

SRP Federal Credit Union launched the SRP Affinity Debit Card Program in 2018 to help support local high schools with funding. The program has expanded since its inception to include 45 high schools, as well as Augusta Technical College, across the CSRA.

Every time an SRP member uses an SRP Affinity Debit Card, the credit union donates funds to the school designated on the card. Schools have full discretion over the funds, allowing them to address a variety of needs. Past donations have supported technology
upgrades, team uniforms, school equipment, teacher certifications, and more.

Kristin Risher, principal of STHS, said receiving funding support through the SRP Affinity Debit Card Program gives the school the flexibility to innovate and support crucial programs and resources.

"These funds directly impact our daily culture by powering our R.E.B.S. Rewards student incentive program, supporting staff development and recognition to ensure high-quality instruction daily, providing critical resources for families in poverty, and
helping to continue the forward movement of our unique career academy model to provide career-related experiences that reach beyond classroom walls,” said Risher. “The SRP Affinity Debit Card Program isn't just funding our school; it is actively investing
    in our future!"

SPC Credit Union hosts poverty simulation with Leadership Hartsville

Updated 5/28/2026 at 9:18 a.m.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — SPC Credit Union recently partnered with the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Hartsville program to host a poverty simulation at the Hampton Inn & Suites in downtown Hartsville, bringing together credit
union staff, community volunteers, and local leaders for an immersive look at the realities many families face while living in poverty.

Participants navigate realistic financial scenarios at stations during the poverty simulation.

Modeled after a similar activity hosted by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, the exercise was organized by SPC Community Impact Liaison Brooke Humphries to help participants better understand the difficult financial decisions many households encounter
    daily.

“I wanted to transform the numbers for people,” Humphries said. “We see statistics that share how much of our community is struggling financially, but until we feel the stress and heartache of the hard choices that people may have to make, it will remain
just numbers. I think this activity helps to break down stereotypes and bridges a gap in empathy."

Participants began the exercise with a $1,000 bundle of “play” money representing a strained household budget and later received roughly $300 weekly for their simulated work. They were tasked with navigating everyday financial responsibilities such as housing, childcare, transportation, healthcare, and insurance costs while encountering realistic scenarios that required difficult financial decisions between immediate needs and long-term stability.

Representatives from Genesis Healthcare, Darlington County First Steps, and Rubicon Family Counseling Center joined SPC staff in facilitating the simulation and helping provide additional community perspectives.

Wendi Sutherlin, executive director of Rubicon Family Counseling Center, said the experience highlighted how quickly financial hardship can affect families.

“I felt the poverty simulation was super helpful for those in our community to learn that anyone can fall on hard times. It’s not just about poor choices,” Sutherlin said. “Many people in our community struggle and are just one step away from having to
choose medication versus rent or jobs versus childcare, or shoes on their feet versus food on the table.”

Spero Financial expands HOPE Loans to support women’s financial futures

For many single women, one unexpected moment, whether a job loss, a car repair, or another setback, can create financial challenges that are difficult to overcome.

That reality is shaping the next chapter of HOPE Loans at Spero Financial Federal Credit Union, which is expanding the program to reach single women across its communities with a more accessible, supportive approach to lending designed for real-life
    financial hardships.

“We’ve met women who are doing everything right and still feel stuck,” said Jessica Baker, Spero’s Chief Strategy Officer. “HOPE Loans are about meeting them where they are, removing barriers, and giving them a path forward.”

Supported by a federal grant awarded to Spero Financial as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), the program focuses on single women, including many single mothers, who may not be able to access traditional financing. Through the
initiative, Spero has committed to lending $4 million over three years to help women build financial stability and move forward with confidence.

A lending approach built around the full picture

HOPE Loans are designed to look beyond a traditional credit score and consider a broader financial picture, including consistent rent, utility, or bill payment history. The program can support needs such as:

Reliable transportation

Housing stability

Essential expenses and education

Debt consolidation

Stories of impact

For one woman who received a HOPE Loan, a major life transition and loss of income left her trying to support her family while falling behind on bills. Even after finding a better-paying job, catching up still felt out of reach. Through the program, she
was able to regain stability and begin moving forward.

Another woman, facing ongoing vehicle issues, struggled to get to work and manage daily responsibilities. After exhausting other options, she found support through HOPE Loans, gaining both a practical solution and renewed confidence.

More than a loan

HOPE Loans are part of a broader commitment to financial empowerment. Borrowers are supported throughout the process and connected with resources that can help build long-term financial health.

With the expansion, more women are being encouraged to explore HOPE Loans, even if they have been turned down elsewhere.

“This program exists because we believe every woman deserves to soar financially,” Baker said. “Sometimes, that starts with someone saying 'yes' when others have said 'no.'”

Chartered in 1935, Spero Financial Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative with a mission to improve financial lives. One of South Carolina’s largest credit unions, Spero serves

SRP Federal Credit Union donated more than $70,000 to four high schools in the Barnwell County School District through proceeds generated by its 2025 Affinity Debit Card Program, reinforcing its commitment to supporting education across the communities
    it serves.

SRP Federal Credit Union officials joined Barnwell County School District Board of Trustees members and Superintendent Dr. Crissie Stapleton on March 25 for a check presentation ceremony recognizing the program’s impact. In total, the district received
$71,095.30 in unrestricted funds for participating schools.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are deeply grateful for SRP’s continued investment in our students and schools,” said Becky Huggins, board chair for the Barnwell County School District. “Partnerships like this strengthen not only our classrooms,
    but our entire community.”

Launched in 2018, SRP’s Affinity Debit Card Program provides funding support for local high schools and Augusta Technical College. Each time an SRP member uses an affinity debit card for purchases, SRP Federal Credit Union donates funds to the school
    designated on the card.

The donations are unrestricted, giving participating schools flexibility to allocate funds where they are most needed. In past years, affinity funds have supported teacher certifications, equipment purchases, computer upgrades, athletic uniforms and other
    school priorities.

“At SRP Federal Credit Union, we believe in strengthening our communities through the power of education,” said Lonzo Smith, SRP Federal Credit Union community impact manager. “What makes the SRP Affinity Debit Card Program special is the way it connects
schools, families, and community members toward a common goal: uplifting students in our area. We are proud to support schools across our 10-county service area with Affinity funds.”

In Barnwell County, SRP Federal Credit Union offers affinity debit cards benefiting the Barnwell County Career Center, Barnwell High School, Blackville-Hilda High School and Williston-Elko High School.

Stapleton said the partnership reflects a shared dedication to student success and creates opportunities through ongoing community support.

“This initiative reflects a shared commitment to our students, turning everyday transactions into meaningful investments that support programs, provide resources, and create opportunities across Barnwell County School District,” Stapleton said. “The impact
of SRP’s Affinity Debit Card Program not only provides critical support for student programs and resources, but also demonstrates the power of a community coming together to invest in the success of our children.”

Greenville Federal Credit Union announces plans for new Berea branch

Greenville Federal Credit Union has announced plans to build a new, state-of-the-art branch in Berea, S.C.
The branch will be located on Cedar Lane Road and will feature drive-thru lanes, ATMs with cash deposit capability, a coin-counting machine, safe deposit boxes, a complimentary coffee bar, and multiple private offices designed to provide a comfortable
    space for financial consultations.

Selecting Berea for the credit union’s first branch expansion in 19 years followed careful consideration. Greenville Federal Credit Union noted that there are currently no credit unions centrally located in Berea. With portions of the community designated
as Opportunity Zones, Berea has a large, diverse population, including many residents who are underserved or underbanked through mainstream financial services.

The credit union said the project will help beautify a section of Cedar Lane Road by replacing blighted buildings with modern architecture and landscaping. The development also includes infrastructure improvements such as underground stormwater management
and revitalized sidewalks. Once open, the new branch is expected to bring additional jobs to the Berea community and support efforts to attract further investment in the area.

Seth Blanton, district director for Congressman William Timmons, attended in support of the announcement, joined by representatives from the Carolinas Credit Union League as part of ongoing advocacy efforts to elevate the credit union difference and strengthen
    relationships with federal policymakers.

The new facility reflects the credit union’s long-standing commitment to serving Greenville County through community-focused events and financial wellness programs. Greenville Federal Credit Union said the branch will provide a modern and secure space
for individuals and families in Berea and surrounding areas who may lack access to affordable, dependable financial services.

“Our members and our community are always our priority,” said CEO Paul Hughes. “Currently, there are no credit unions in the heart of Berea, and we are honored to be the first. The new branch will feature our outstanding deposit, loan, and commercial
services which our members know and love, as well as our award-winning financial education, delivered in both English and Spanish. We look forward to serving our members, new and existing, once our Berea branch opens.”

Allegacy Federal Credit Union today announced its official rebrand to Allegacy Financial®, a name that conveys the breadth of our services and expertise available to members — while honoring the legacy and relationships they built along the way.

This evolution brings greater clarity to the full way Allegacy supports its members today: as a comprehensive financial partner offering personal, small business, commercial, and wealth management services. While the name is new, Allegacy’s deep commitment
to relationships, local understanding, and helping North Carolinians thrive remains the same.

“This is a natural evolution of who we’ve become,” said Nathanael Tarwasokono, President and CEO of Allegacy Financial. “Our members have trusted us to be there for the moments that matter. As we’ve grown alongside them, it became clear our brand should
better reflect the complete way we support their goals. Allegacy Financial represents who we are today and where we’re headed — rooted in relationships, guided by purpose, and focused on helping North Carolinians thrive.”

While some things may look new, what matters most remains the same. Allegacy Financial continues to offer the same products, services, and trusted support members rely on every day, now brought together under a clearer, more unified brand. Allegacy Financial
remains committed to delivering to members service that knows you, solutions for every goal, expertise and ease to move ahead, and value that stays close to home.

Allegacy Financial remains a federally chartered, member-owned credit union. Its ownership structure, values, and commitment to members remain unchanged. Every decision continues to be guided by members’ needs, not shareholders.

“We believe growth is meaningful when it’s personal – when it’s built on trust, strengthened through partnership, and rooted close to home. Grounded in this belief, we stand for one simple idea: Where roots and relationships matter™,” said Emily Edwards,
    Chief Digital and Marketing Officer.

Truliant Federal Credit Union and Piedmont Advantage Credit Union announced they have signed a definitive agreement to combine, uniting two mission-driven credit unions that are dedicated to the well-being of their members and the communities they serve.

When the merger is complete, the combined credit union will serve more than 360,000 members and operate more than 40 locations under the Truliant name and charter, with about $6 billion in assets. The combination strengthens the cooperatives – each of
which has been serving members for more than 70 years – and allows for more investment in member service and community-focused banking.

Few, if any, layoffs are expected as part of this combination. While some roles may evolve as teams align, the focus is on strengthening the organization and growing together.

“This is an opportunity to build on what both organizations already do so well. By bringing our teams together, we can expand our impact and deliver even more meaningful value for the members we serve each day,” said Todd Hall, President and CEO of Truliant.
“We share the same values, the same commitment to people and community, and the same belief in doing what’s right for our members, and for each other.”

“This is a people-first partnership, grounded in shared values and a clear sense of purpose. It is a proactive, strategic decision that leverages our strengths and supports our evolution,” said Dion Williams, President and CEO of PACU. “We recognize an
opportunity to deliver more to our members, employees, and communities. They will continue to receive the same level of attention they count on.”

The proposed combination, which has been unanimously supported by the Boards of Directors of both organizations, is subject to regulatory approvals and a vote by PACU's membership. The merger is expected to close by early 2027 and Todd Hall will lead
the combined credit union. Williams will assist with the transition and remain involved until it is complete.

Until the transition is completed, both credit unions will continue to operate as independent entities. There will be no impact on services for members.
