The Carolinas Credit Union League Board of Directors, led by Lion’s Share FCU CEO Mark Curran, voted in favor of and signed a resolution on May 12, 2021 to support an 8th Cooperative Principle that asserts an unambiguous commitment to Diversity, Equity
& Inclusion (DEI).
Credit unions may view the League’s
signed resolution from its dedicated DEI Commitment webpage at www.carolinasleague.org/dei.
“Passing this resolution is another step in our commitment to further DEI efforts within our organization,” said CCUL President and CEO Dan Schline. “We also look forward to continuing education, advocacy and discussion on DEI across our two states.”
The resolution template, which any credit union or cooperative may download and complete here, was created through a collaborative DEI initiative led by Local Government FCU (LGFCU), Civic
FCU and the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC)—inviting credit unions and other cooperatives to embrace the adoption of the 8th Cooperative Principle.
Maurice R. Smith, CEO of Raleigh-based LGFCU and Civic FCU, led the call for the cooperative principles to include diversity, equity
and inclusion back in February of 2019. Since then, many more credit unions, leagues and associations—including CUNA—have signed resolutions
to adopt this new cooperative principle.
